About Martham Boating Association

Martham Boating Association was established in 1987 by a small group of Martham sailing and boating enthusiasts. Its aims were to promote waterbourne activities north of Potter Heigham - The club has grown over the years and today has 50 members, it is open to anyone who has an interest in boating activities (sailing, cruising, canoeing etc.). The club has 3 sailing dinghies which are ideal stable boats for beginners but offer entertaining sailing in stronger winds for the more experienced. During the Spring/Summer season competitions are held between club members, the competitions are friendly and competitive with the emphasis on enjoyment. There are 2 passage races held during the season, the spring race is for members only, using their own craft or club dinghies, with the autumn passage race being an open race for Broads Cruisers, Half Deckers and Production Yachts, starting and finishing at The Pleasureboat Inn Hickling. This year 14 boats attended and a very close competition took place with only 3 minutes between 1st and 4th boats! Some members are also keen to take part in other open competitions around the Broads, notably The Three Rivers Race in June and The Yare Navigation Race in September. Success in these events has been achieved by Russell & Hazel Smith in Emily 344 and Roger Sales in Sunset 279. We also organise an active social scene with a variety of events throughout the year which enables members to keep in touch with one another. Please see the events Calendar.
